Pennsylvania ranks 9th in the country for per-student funding of public schools. School districts in the commonwealth receive, overall, $3,700 more per student than the national average.
This data comes from the National Center for Education Statistics’ recent update with 2014-15 figures on revenues and expenditures for public schools in all 50 states.
On a per-student basis, Pennsylvania exceeds the national average in revenue from local, state, and federal sources. It’s important to repeat this: Funding per student from state revenue sources is greater than the national average.
Elected leaders should stop focusing on education dollars alone. Educational options, including the tax credit programs like the EITC have led to improved student outcomes and savings for taxpayers. Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) would let parents create the best learning environment for their child.
