Abbey Haslam Director of Government Affairs

Abbey Haslam joined the Commonwealth Foundation after spending nearly a decade working with lawmakers to advance free market policies from inside the Pennsylvania State Capitol.  As a communications coordinator/manager for the state House of Representatives, Abbey researched and wrote about a wide range of issues including educational opportunity, energy independence, fiscal responsibility and tax reform. She has traveled professionally throughout Pennsylvania and maintains an extensive network of relationships with media and government leaders. She is experienced in crisis communications, speech writing, strategic marketing and media coaching, and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America. 

Abbey has helped develop communications, branding and messaging strategies for political races at the federal, state and local levels. She has also coordinated digital messaging strategy for small businesses in the private sector. She serves as a member of the board and media director for a charitable foundation dedicated to curing rare genetic diseases.

At Shippensburg University, Abbey earned her B.A. in Communication/Journalism. She mentors communication/journalism students at her alma mater, where she was recognized with the Service to Alumni Award for Professional Development. 

In her spare time, she enjoys photography, travel and concerts. She lives in Harrisburg with her husband and son.

Abbey plans to remain at the Commonwealth Foundation until she is offered a job as the on-air personality at a major-market country music radio station.
